Common Ground

A chronicle of the struggle to preserve the public sector in an era of the shrinking state and corporatization of public services.

Common Ground (2013), Filmmaker Tom Radford chronicles the struggle to preserve the public sector in an era of the shrinking state and corporatization of public services.

What do Albertans stand to lose as the public sector is marginalized in their daily lives?  Can the deep roots of community and co-operation in the province’s history survive the arrival of the billionaire Koch Brothers? How will the merger of the Wild Rose and the Conservative parties effect the political life of the province, when the privatization of government they envision is a fundamental change of course?

The contracting out, transfer or divestiture of community controlled operations or services – means the removal from elected government representatives of the responsibility for the civil service. “Common Ground” sets out to discover the roots of democracy in Alberta life, and understand the forces today that are intent on destroying it.
